Luana Carothers: Motorcycle oil is snake oil, mostly an excuse to charge a premium price. Just about any automotive oil will work fine in a bike except 5w30 and 10w30 oils with friction modifiers, which may lead to clutch slipping. There is absolutely no evidence that motorcycle-specific oils will lead to longer engine life. The most important thing, no matter what oil you use, is regular oil changes every 1000-2000 miles.
Randa Hessell: Coolant is pretty generic so use a high quality commercial brand readily available to replace or replenish...However when it comes to motor oil use only oil manaufactured for motorcycles....THe main reason without going into issues that only a chemical engineer could understand is the specifications by which cyle oil versus auto oil is brought to market...Moto oils need to perform and sustain that performance at a much higher running temp than auto oils....Once an oil reaches a temperature above its operational limits then it begins! to break down and lose its ability to properly lubricate the engine and its components......When that happens then you begin to do damge to the internal parts of the engine..SOmetimes this damage manifests itself immediately, and sometimes it is more sinister and surfaces months down the road......I would definitley use auto oil in an emregnecy if I were stuck on the road with no accessibility to motocycle oil and needed to top off or actuallyl fullly repelnish but at the first opportunity I would change that out to full motocycle oil immediatley..I feel this oil regimen applies to all makes and models of mOtorcyle engines....Keep in mind that engine oil ( eveen at inflated prices for motorcycle oil) is much mmuch cheper thatn engine replacement...Cheaper by the thousands by the way...Show more
Karl Jantzen: There was one time on 2 car garage where they changed the oil on a motorcycle and they threw in 1qt of Castrol Syntec and then used regular motorcycle oil to to! p it off. They said that by using the 1qt of Synthetic oil th! at it will help the engine to run cooler while increasing the performance of the engine. Hope this helps....
Mikel Bethay: Motorcycle specific oil ONLY... Castrol 4T ect...Any automotive NON-SILICATE, NON NITRITE antifreeze mixed 50:50 with water is fine... Prestone All Brands ect. The other advice I see is just rubbish.
Merna Fauset: Any coolant will do, although I recommend a high quality motor oil: either a motorcycle-specific synthetic or a top quality synthetic automotive oil such as Amsoil. Stick with the OEM oil filter.
Marcellus Exler: Do not use any motor oil with friction modifiers, they will mess with your clutch. Use a motorcycle oil instead. Most automotive oils have friction modifiers.
Inell Riesgo: I too have a GSXR 600 and many others and will NOT be using over priced Motorcylce oils. All of your other advicates are giving just an opinion. A scientific question requires a scientific answer. I too have always used those rediculous M/! C specific oils. Now I refuse to pay. I have puchased oil for upwards of $20 per litre (Silkolene Synthentic) No more. Knowledge is power. Opinion? well everybody has one. Bernie Cerra: Like the man said, oil has a very complex construction save yourself an engine and spend the money. There is very good reason why Formula 1 cars has £2000 worth of oil in them and it's not for the fun of spending money. Poor quality coolant has a tendency to clot, which in turn will cause blockage and over heating.Hope you take the advice of Harley guy before you learn a very expensive lesson....Show more
