Where is the digital VCR? - Recording from TV without a subscription?

Rosalia Hibler: First, we didn't record FROM a TV. The VCR has its own tuner. We recorded off the air or from basic cable, using the VCR as a receiver/recorder. The TV was not part of the process until playback.Next, see the link for the "digital VCR." Connect it to a very good antenna, and you can record in HD exactly the same as you did in standard-def with a VCR. No subscription or rental fees....Show more

Geraldo Mccalla: If that device has been invented, the movie industry and cable giants may try to block it with charges that it could lead to piracy. It would cut into the business of all of the DVR subscription services and probably DVD/Blu-ray sales. The mostly manufacturer of such a device would be companies that also make DVD and Blu- ray players. I watch for new products regularly and I have not heard anyone hint that they are developing anything like this....Show more

Ronnie Sardi: Avddaddy. It has nothing to do with joining the 21st century! , it has to do with corporations charging us for free content. We could record over the air to tape, there is no reason we can t do the same to digital storage. They are just blocking this so they can continue to rape ignorant consumers. One can build their own device witha PC, a tuner and storage. However, I agree with the OP, an off the shelf solution would be much better for those of us that don t mind progamming the thing to record our favorite shows instead of being held hostage to $100 a month bills so we don t have to think....Show more

Tijuana Tatsak: What you imagine does not exist. Quit whining & join the rest of us in the 21st century.

Valentine Michaud: As it is sold, the OTA DVRs do not replicate the VCR's ability to record cable programs.

Ron Keliipio: This Site Might Help You.RE:Where is the digital VCR? - Recording from TV without a subscription?Does anyone remember when a fifty cent VHS tape and the VCR that you already owned was all ! that you needed to record your favorite show? Now, the only o! ption is to pay for DVR subscription and rent the equipment....Show more

Clementina Collelo: Your cable box has analog outputs that you are not using for anything, since I would imagine your cable box is connected to your TV via HDMI or component cables. So assuming your VCR is not one of the ancient ones with only an RF input, use one set of the extra outputs from your cable box to connect to like inputs on your VCR. You would have to tune your cable box yourself and hit the record button on your VCR, but it's all free.
