Tatiana Evanosky: It depends on the state you live in as to how city, county and state taxes are assessed. We have 50 states, you know. Most of the local tax (schools, county hospitals, city taxes, county taxes) comes from property taxes when you own property. Some states, but not all, even tax you on your yearly income similar to federal tax. Texas is one state that doesn't tax you on your yearly income YET. ha This is called state income tax. Some taxes paid to the city, county or state come from the utility bills you pay. Some of these taxes even go to the federal govt, like the FCC (communications) tax, or the gasoline tax. If you were to go through all the taxes you pay in a year, you would go nuts. Oh yes, and let's don't forget sales tax. But this can vary from state to state. Here in TX, in our city, it's 8.25%. That's a lot! Much of that money goes to our transit bus and rail system that hardly anyone uses. Federal government taxes are paid through! your withholding or income taxes assessed on money you receive each year from your job or assets. Ever do a 1040 form? Yikes, I've got a headache from just answering this question....Show more
Jeremy Donohue: Clarify please..whut are you asking
Chastity Doderer: Clarify your question. Are you talking about the taxes withheld from a paycheck? Real property or sales taxes? It depends o the state. In Ill, Sales and real property tax go the the state and local governments, respectively. On a property tax bill, you will see listings like "Mosquitoe abatement district, fire protection district, etc". These are local governments. In Ill. they also get a share of state income taxes collected....Show more
Jackson Esmiol: The federal taxes go to the federal government, the state taxes go to the state, and the city taxes go to the city. It's not that hard
Zelma Casebier: as in sales tax....
