Can I reject the job after signing a employment offer acceptance letter?

Ariel Arons: Can I reject the job after signing a employment offer acceptance letter (job is in Shanghai - China)?

Hai Biggart: Where are you? Laws vary by country and sometimes by state. If it was a contract that you signed, they might be able to sue you if you backed out, but very likely wouldn't.

Cassondra Vanholland: yes

Alvaro Oare: Not having seen the letter, it is difficult to definitively say yes or no either way. However, if you have not accepted goods, monies, training or other services from the employer by signing the letter, and its not a military job offer (different employment laws apply), then yes probably you can easily extract yourself. You need to call the hiring manager, and explain your reasons to them. Think: it may just be nerves or unanswered questions that creating a lost opportunity? If you have had a counter offer from your existing employer, be aware that only 2/3rds of employees are there after 12months once a counter offer is m! ade - something else apart from money or power made them want to seek pastures new.If you decide to go through with this, then you need to prepare a suitable letter rescinding your offer acceptance letter. Send this via Post Office recorded delivery, together with the original copy of the signed offer acceptance letter (making sure you take copies of each before sending them).Good Luck!...Show more

Marcia Cheathan: Reject An Offer Letter

Frederick Mccoach: can the employer back out after I had already signed the offer letter without any reason? pls some one advoce me.

Mark Villifana: It can depend on your state. Most states have at-will employement which gives you the right to quit a job at any time without legal ramifications. The exception to this is if you signed a contract. Most employees are not contracted though. So it depends on the state you are in, and if you signed a legal contract. Most offer letters are not legally binding contracts. I'm not! an attorney and I dont' know what state you are in or what th! e offer letter said, so please make sure you research the details of your situation before making your decision....Show more

Buddy Ardd: No problems. Only wise if you have got a better offer available immediately.

Will Camus: There are no ramifications, just as there are none when you quit a job. Unless of course the acceptance letter states otherwise.
