Can a C-130 land on a aircraft carrier out at sea?

Lawanna Livsey: This Site Might Help You.RE:Can a C-130 land on a aircraft carrier out at sea?and aside from jet fighters and helicopters name the aircraft that can land and take off from a US aircraft carrier? The AWACS I believe is one of them.....Show more

Rosalyn Olivera: E-2C, Not C-130. I'm getting the down thumbs and you are getting losser answers from nobodies. That figures. NOT only am I a recent Naval aircrewman retirie but my son is OPs O aboard the USS Nimitz. The C-130 was an experiment ONLY. An AWACS type aircraft is the E-2C.1/2 the planes people are listing are NO longer in service. they are finding thast info on google. It's WRONGHere are the A/C on a carrier, F-18(a-f), Sh-60(many), E-2C, C-2A, ea-6b, oCCCASSIONALLY AN SH-3, H-53, Or H-46 will come aboard, but thats it. F-14 and S-3 are long gone....Show more

Russel Gajate: A c-130 can land on a aircraft carrier.Takes a huge amount of skill and luck.

Stephnie Patout: Well after seeing th! e video, yes a C130 can land on an Aircraft Carrier. How often it's done is beyond me.

Hilton Paiva: no c-130 they are too big. its helicopeters t38's stuff like that i think that f16's and f15's can

Nicolasa Henke: Yes they can. It only took place once. This was the crowning moment for the C-130. It showed that a large transport could be landed on taken of and aircraft carrier.

Leif Serabia: C-130 Carrier Landing

Lou Ravelo: A C-130 landed on the U.S.S. Forrestal back in 1963.Current roles deemed "support" by the Navy include: carrier on-board delivery (COD), electronic surveillance (ES), electronic warfare (EW), and airborne early warning (AEW). Another possible support role for a carrier-based aircraft is that of aerial refueling.Anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and anti-surface warfare (ASUW) are sometimes also considered "support".Current carrier-based fixed-wing support aircraft used by the US Navy include:C-2 Greyhound, for COD; S-3 Viking, for! ASW, ASUW, and aerial refueling; EA-6B Prowler, for EW; E-2 H! awkeye, for AEW. ES-3 Shadow, for ES....Show more

Mandy Mustaro: A C-130 did land and take off from a carrier ONCE, not oporationally, just as a test to demonstrate that it could be done. C-130's however do not take off or land on carriers. It was just that one time.Other Aircraft other than Fighters and Helos that take off from US Carriers...E-2C Hawkeyes (AWACS)EA-6B Prowlers (JAMMER)C-2 Greyhound (COD..CARGO)UPDATE:Point about the AWACS and Carriers. The Plane known as the AWACS, the E-3B is a converted Boeing 737 and No it cannot land on a carrier. However the US Navy does have its own AWACS in the form of the E-2C Hawkeye affectionately known as the Mini-AWACS, It is based on the same Airframe as the C-2 Greyhound....Show more

Coleen Carignan: I guess it could. But it depends what the C-130 is carrying. I don't think it could do it with full load. Its not common for a C-130 to land on a carrier btw. Example in history, B-25 Mitchell. It was never meant to be! place on a carrier and it still did during the Doolittle Raid.

Majorie Chester: USS Forrestal in October 1963 using a Marine Corps KC-130F. The motivation for these tests, ordered by the Chief of Naval Operations, was to determine the feasibility of using the existing C-130 aircraft as a long-range carrier onboard delivery (COD) transport. At the time, the Navy was using the C-1 Trader for COD duties, but the plane was limited to a rather small payload and a 300 mile (480 km) range. When operating far out at sea, carriers were unable to receive desperately needed supplies without steaming closer in to shore. It was hoped that the larger, long-range C-130 would be able to address that deficiency. AWACS, are you talking about the NAVAL E-2C Hawkeye - its smaller than the C-130. It's stressed (reinforced) and overpowered besides Catapult capable....Heres an oldie but a WOWWWW! Ship based strategic jet bomber. No longer is service, more is the pity!http://www.bobjelli! son.com/RA5C_Vigilante4.htmCarrier-based squadrons fly six different ty! pes of aircraft: F/A-18 Hornets, F-14 Tomcats, SH-60 Seahawks, S-3B Vikings, E-2C Hawkeyes EA-6B Prowlers.http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ship/cv.htmForthcoming: The U.S. Marine Corps will use the F-35B to replace both its AV-8B Harrier II and F/A-18 Hornet fighters. The B variant is expected to be available beginning in 2012.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-35_Lightning_II#F-3......Show more

Karey Dunken: C-130 Aircraft Carrier

Sharolyn Claybourn: The C-130 can land on an aircraft carrier, but it's not a routine occurrence. In 1963, the Chief of Naval Operations wanted to see if it was feasible to use the Herc as a Carrier Onboard Delivery aircraft. He ordered several test landings on the supercarrier USS Forrestral. Two Navy pilots, Lt. James H. Flatley and Lt. Cmdr. “Smokey” Stovall completed about 20 full-stop landings and about 30 touch-and-go landings in the C-130. It was determined that the C-130 could successfully take off and land from a carrier b! ased on its weight, length and other specifications, but operating such a large aircraft in a hectic carrier environment would be too risky and costly. AWACS does not refer to one specific type of plane, just a type of radar system used on certain airplanes. For example the Air Force's most used AWACS plane is an E-3 Sentry and the Navy's is an E-2 Hawkeye. Since it is an Air Force plane, the E-3 is not equipped to take off and land from a carrier but the E-2 is usually based off aircraft carriers....Show more

Madlyn Fallis: Yes it can, here is a video of it:http://www.metacafe.com/watch/200516/c130_hercules...No, an AWACS cannot land on an aircraft carrier, it is almost twice as big as a C130
